As clear as Clarins

May 26th, 2010 — 6:18pm

Who else is as excited as me by the new lip gloss from Clarins? Come on, it’s ok to admit it! When was the last time you saw a ‘new’ product on the market that was actually innovative and made you want to trample over shoppers to get to it? Er… no? Just me then! Clarins have produced a lip ‘stick’ that is actually a lip ‘gloss’ and a super hydrating one to boot. The effects are great and it’s a dream to use - it’s just a bonus that it looks damn cool too!

Motcombs Brasserie – Motcomb Street

May 26th, 2010 — 6:10pm

Wednesday night and time to think of somewhere for dinner. The Orange and The Ebury were both full so Mr Style Bite and I decided to scoot along to our usual ‘go to choice, Sophie’s, until I came up with (what I thought was a good idea at the time) the decision that we should try Motcombs Brasserie on Motcomb street. The natural watering hole of Chelsea inhabitants and positively rammed inside and out with Sloane Rangers every weekend. Having previously seen the heaving masses outside this joint on many occasions, I duly phoned ahead to make sure they had room for us and a charming lady told me that they did. As it turned out, Wednesdays appear to be the night when everyone decides to go to The Orange or The Ebury and apart from a few stragglers slumped in their seats outside there was not one soul inside apart from two waiters watching the football on the big screen. Needless to say they found us a table outside under the scaffolding. We skipped the starters and made do with our bread rolls before both ordering Motcombs crab cakes in a Lobster sauce which, I must admit were very nice and served with skinny chips. I also caught side of the lobster risotto and rib of lamb that a waitress tried to deliver to our table in error and if those dishes tasted as good as they looked then the rightful table would have been in for a treat. We washed our crab cakes down with a bottle of Chardonnay which I found rather disappointing but for £26 was reasonably priced; and we skipped dessert. For two plates of crab cakes and a bottle of wine the bill came to £70. Pretty stiff for your average Wednesday – with the emphasis firmly on the word average.  I must say that some excitement came by way of window shopping at Christian Louboutin on the way back to the car where these little beauties blew me a kiss! So I guess all was not lost… I can wear them to Sophies next Wednesday.

Sundowners at Aqua

May 26th, 2010 — 5:59pm

One of the coolest bars I have been to in a very long time, Aqua was an absolute delight. The entrance to this glamorous haven is on Argyle Street: the lift takes you up to the fifth floor where you are greeted by good looking but pretentious staff (well we are in London!). The central bar is surrounded by tall tables and stools where London’s fashionista were casually sipping their Friday night cocktails. The main room has an adjoining restaurant and two large balconies overlooking the skyline of London, each with their own bar and are decked out with patio furniture straight from the clubs of Ibiza. A little slice of the Balearics has come to London! My only bugbear would be the frostiness of some of the staff but the views, as you can imagine, were gorgeous, the cocktails divine and that was what I was there for after all… I can’t wait for next Friday night to go back!
